The Bednja dialect

The population of the Bednja municipality speak the Bednja dialect but main traits of the Bednja dialect are also found in native speech of the surrounding area (Lepoglava, Kamenica and especially Jesenje). The Bednja dialect is considered to be one of the most interesting and the most complicated types of the kajkavian dialect. The ancient Slavic accent has been preserved in many words, more than in the general kajkavian dialect, so in many cases this accent is identical to the Russian language and chakavian dialect. Its archaic form and native value (in respect of Phonetics, Lexic, Morphology, Semantics and in respect of other linguistic features) has remained preserved due to conservatism of indigenous, due to specific regional features of the speech itself and due to the very structure of the speech (resistant to the influences of other speeches).
